Spotlight on Dedicated KD Researchers: Ho-Chang Kuo, MD, PhD, FAAAAI
Professor Ho-Chang Kuo, born in 1973, earned his M.D. degree from National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan in 1999, followed by a Ph.D. from the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medical Science at Chang Gung University in 2011. He serves as an attending pediatrician, physician-scientist, and professor at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Chang Gung University in Taiwan. His primary areas of clinical and research expertise include Kawasaki disease and allergic diseases.
Since 2013, he has been the Director of the Kawasaki Disease Center in Taiwan. Over the years, he has published more than 280 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, including contributions to Nature Genetics (2011 and 2012), Circulation Research (2015), The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (2016), Arthritis and Rheumatology (2015), and Allergy. Of these, 160 papers specifically focus on Kawasaki disease.
Additionally, he serves as an associate editor for several journals, including Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Pediatrics, Children, BMC Pediatrics, Medicine, and the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, and has been a guest editor for IJMS and Children. His work has earned him recognition as one of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, as published by Stanford University.
According to a bibliometric and visual analysis published in Frontiers in Pediatrics (July 27, 2023; 11:1142065), his contributions have significantly impacted the field of Kawasaki disease. He also founded Taiwan’s first Kawasaki Disease Parents Association and established the country’s only Kawasaki Disease Center.
