Kawasaki Disease Foundation Internship Program
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Kawasaki Disease Foundation (KDF) is accepting applications for one part-time position in communications and administration.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The recruitment for this position will begin on June 7, 2024 and may close on or before August 30, 2024.
LOCATION: 100% Remote/Online, must reside in the United States.
SCHEDULE/SHIFT: Flexible, 8 hours per week, with required attendance at our monthly board meeting scheduled online on the last Monday of the month at 6 pm PST/8 pm CT/9 pm EST (meeting date on holiday months is adjusted). This is a 15-week internship program from October 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Exact start and end dates may be flexible based on the academic schedule. No work will be conducted during the weeks of November 25-29, 2024, and December 23, 2024 to January 3, 2025.
COMPENSATION: This is a stipend-based internship paying $20 per hour for up to 15 weeks, 8 hours per week for 15 weeks, $2,400 total. A stipend of $600 will be provided monthly upon completion of monthly deliverables.
TITLE: Kawasaki Disease Foundation Communications Intern
This position will collaborate with the KDF board of directors to create an online Kawasaki Disease (KD) awareness and fundraising campaign for the month of January 2025. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of communications within a non-profit environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Under general supervision, the Kawasaki Disease Foundation Communications Intern will collaborate on the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation phase of the annual Kawasaki Disease Awareness and Fundraising Campaign, which will be conducted online through the KDF’s social media platforms and website during January 2025, leading to KD Awareness Day on January 26, 2025.
- Content strategy and planning: Assist in developing a communications plan for the upcoming KD Awareness Day campaign and website that includes an audit of existing content, content creation, and a calendar and schedule for ongoing review.
- Content creation: As a valued member of the communications team, you will be instrumental in creating engaging and informative content for various platforms. This includes social media, promotional materials, website, newsletters, and more.
- Social media communications: Help facilitate our organization’s social media calendar, including scheduling posts and creating content for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
- Other Duties: Provide administrative support and assist with special projects as assigned by the Communications and Administration teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Presently enrolled in a United States community college or university pursuing a degree or certificate in Communications, Marketing, or a related field in Journalism
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience working with graphic design
- Social media communication experience
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deliverables
- Excellent computer skills in standard office applications, specifically in Microsoft Products and WordPress web content management
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to take projects from inception to completion and work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of KDF’s mission, Kawasaki disease treatment, diagnosis, and recovery, and of past KD Awareness campaigns organized by the Foundation.
- Have a connection to KD. Connection to KD can be through a personal diagnosis or that of a family member, friend, or other individual.
